What is Freepeats?
Freepeats is a way for parents to get gently-used baby, kid and maternity items like clothing, high chairs, bouncers, swings, bikes, and toys for free from other parents who have finished with them. It's also a way to get rid of baby cast offs without having to load up the car (and the kids) and take them to the thrift store.
What kinds of items may I give away?
Most baby and children's items are appropriate as long as they're in good condition (safe, working order, not too worn, no missing parts, etc.). For safety reasons, car seats and used crib mattresses may not be posted. If it's something you'd feel comfortable giving to a friend, it's probably okay.
How do I post an offer?
To create an offer, create a new topic with "Offer" at the beginning of the subject line, followed by a brief description of what you're giving away. In parentheses, put your general location within the local area (your neighborhood, etc.). Add more details in the body of the message. For more tips, see the "sticky" posts at the top of each forum.
Where can I find out if an item being offered has been recalled?
Recalls.gov is a great resource. There you'll find links to recall information for various types of products. Inspect any product you receive carefully.
Is it free?
All items offered on the boards are free for the taking. If you join Freepeats during the first two weeks of your forum's existence, your lifetime membership is free. After that, there's a $4.95 one-time fee to join. Use the forum as long as you like and you won't be charged again.
Why do you charge for membership?
The $4.95 lifetime membership fee helps offset the cost of maintaining a network of quality message boards offering quality baby goods.
Will you be opening a forum in my city?
We hope so. We're expecting at least a dozen forums to be up and running by the end of 2008. We're sticking to major metro areas for now but hope to be able to offer the service to folks in more rural areas, too.
How do I get free membership?
During your forum's free enrollment period, just go to the forum and click on "register." Enter the required information and you'll have free lifetime access.
How can I pay?
PayPal. At PayPal, you can use credit or debit cards, pay directly from your bank account, or use PayPal credit. If you'd like to write a check or pay cash instead, please contact support@freepeats.org.
Where can I leave feedback for other forum members?
To leave feedback, email moderator@freepeats.org.
What do I do if I see something I want?
If you see something you want, respond directly to the person offering the item via email or private message. She/He will choose from among responses and contact you if you're the lucky recipient. At that point you'll make arrangements to pick up the item.
I really need a particular item. Can I create a "wanted" post?
Sure. Just make sure you post an offer first. Then go to the Wish List section of the forum and create a post. We recommend putting a few words that describe what you want in the message title. When you receive what you wanted, please post within the original discussion. Begin the post with "RECEIVED" followed by the original description.
Will the offer posts show photos of the items?
No, but some posters may link to photos stored elsewhere on the web, like at Photobucket.com or Flickr.
What if I'm in the wrong member group?
Just email us at support@freepeats.org. We'll take care of it.
What if I have a problem?
Contact support@freepeats.org. Freepeats is run by one family, not a machine or a large company. We're easy to talk to and we'll help you figure it out.
